Course Description and Overall Goal

This training will focus on latent Tuberculosis infection (LTBI) and building partnerships to engage communities, increase case detection, and facilitate treatment of Tuberculosis. The morning portion will cover risk assessment, screening, and treatment for LTBI, including new diagnostic tests. The afternoon will feature an interactive exercise focusing on building community partnerships.

As Tuberculosis rates decline in the United States, the diagnosis and treatment of LTBI have gained importance in order to prevent future cases of active disease. An integral part of reducing Tuberculosis infection involves partnering with communities to provide education, conduct risk assessments, and facilitate access to treatment.  

Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

·         Describe and implement current recommendations for risk assessment, screening, and treatment of latent TB infection

·         Identify and utilize effective diagnostic methods

·         Apply the TB prevention continuum framework to increase partnerships with providers and communities

In order to meet the learning objectives and receive continuing education credits for completing the activity, participants are required to attend the 5 hour activity and complete a post-activity evaluation.

Directions:

From Main Campus/Downtown Worcester Rte. 9 East:     
Take Route 9 East over the Lake Quinsigamond Bridge. At third set of traffic lights after the bridge, bear left onto Maple Avenue (intersection marked by Fairlawn Shopping Center, Chili's Restaurant). Follow Maple Avenue to top of hill. Turn left at the maroon sign for University of Massachusetts Medical School Worcester Foundation Campus. The Hoagland-Pincus Conference Center is on the right. 

From Route 9 West: 
Westbound from Westborough Rte. 495: Proceed West past Route 140 in Shrewsbury, continue to the second stop light. This is Oak Street; there will be a bowling alley on the right. Turn Right on Oak Street, and proceed until you reach a stop sign. This is Maple Avenue. The entrance to the conference center is directly across the street. The Hoagland-Pincus Conference Center is the first building on the right. 

From the Mass Pike (I-90):
 Westbound from Boston: Take exit 11A to Route 495 North to Route 9 West.
Eastbound from Springfield: Take Exit 10 to Route 290 East. 

From I-290:
Eastbound from Auburn: Proceed on Route 290 East to Exit 22 - Main Street, Shrewsbury. Take Exit 22, at end of ramp take a right onto Main Street. 
Westbound from Marlborough: Proceed on Route 290 West to Exit 22 - Main Street, Shrewsbury. Take exit 22, at end of the ramp take a left onto Main Street.

Once on Main Street, Shrewsbury: 
Proceed on Main Street through the first set of lights and up the hill. Take right onto Gage Lane (the first right after passing St. John's High School). Follow Gage Lane to the end. Turn right onto Maple Avenue. Proceed one-half mile, turn right at the maroon sign for UMMS Worcester Foundation Campus. The Hoagland-Pincus Conference Center is the first building on the right.
